Eventing - SA Warmbloods excel

EVENTING : SIR GALAHAD ridden by Hilton Ford Owned by Rene Ford. Sire Furstlich Galahad (Gallion/ Drosselklang/ Dolerit)  Dam: Palette xx (Bel Bayou/ Take your place/ Homing)

We asked his rider Hilton to tell us a bit more about his horse: Sir Galahad came to us at the age of 4 with a lot of spunk and a couple of bucks for good measure, having never been to a show. His personality is only dwarfed by his drive and determination, making schooling a challenge, which required a lot of time, patience, and wisdom (from my coaches) to settle into a mutual understanding on which our path this far has been built. Taking him on outrides you would never say he is a 3** event-er as he does his best to avoid water and spooks at anything that moves, including his own tail. How-ever, once he leaves the start box, the only thing he focuses on is the obstacle in front of him, which he takes without breaking a stride. Time has never been an issue as he is naturally fit and loves to stretch his legs.

The course at SA Champs (ICB) suited us well as the high altitude, length of track and gradient worked in our favour, with questions asked right up to the last fence. Without the help and wisdom of my coaches Murray Pote, Ronnie Lawrence and Jocelyn Con-stance, as well as the support and encouragement of friends, family and my team from the stables, this significant milestone in my career would not have been possible.

EVENTING : PERIDOT ridden by Grace George and owned by dad Quinton. Peridot is a SAW x Irish sport horse. She is by Rivervale Priceless (Davenport Pyrmont/ Rex Grannus/ Landjunker) out of a Glenagyle Rebel mare. She placed 3rd at the SA 3* Eventing Championships

It is always great to our Irish sport horse blood come through. Peridot is a 10 year old mare by Rivervale Priceless (Pyrmont II/ Rex Grannus) and Kilshane Cashel. Kilshane Cashel was the full sister of Quantum Leap with the RID Glenagyl Rebel line. Quantum Leap was an amazing event horse and represented South Africa and was ridden by Heidi Caine in Kentucky at WEG in 2010.

Clinton says that while she is not the fastest horse on the track, she is a brave, safe and uncomplicated mare, If not being ridden, she spends her day jumping in and out of paddocks for fun. She was bred on George’s farm in KZN and is ridden by his 19 year old daughter, Grace who was the youngest competitor in the 3*.

EVENTING: DAVENPORT RESOLUTION  ridden by Murray Pote, owned by Megan Venter.

Sire: Rex Grannus  Dam: Davenport Wunderhertz (Wunderbar/ Pyrmont xx)

Davenport Resolution and Murray Pote ended 2nd on the Eventing SA Horse and Rider Rankings for 2021 with only 6 shows under their belts.  Competing at 3*, he is a brave but quirky horse with more talent than most could handle. He and Murray have developed a great partnership.
